Earth Day 2025: Celebrating Renewable Energy and Collective Action at QUICKBLOCK

This Earth Day, we’re proud to reflect on our ongoing journey towards a cleaner, more sustainable future, together with our incredible employees, partners, and our manufacturer (Plas-Tech).

The 2025 Earth Day theme is “Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Future,” with the hashtag #OurPowerOurPlanet which resonates with our mission at QUICKBLOCK. Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us; it’s embedded into every part of our operations; from the products we create to how our manufacturing is powered and the way we live our everyday lives.

Powered by the Sun: Our Manufacturer’s Renewable Commitment

Our manufacturing process, in partnership with Plas-Tech, leads the way in renewable energy innovation. The QUICKBLOCK manufacturing line currently operates on a 400KWh solar farm, with panels installed across their factory roofs and an additional one-acre ground system. On a sunny day, the whole factory operates with solar energy and even feeds excess power back into the main grid.

This investment not only reduces reliance on fossil fuels but sets an inspiring example of what’s possible when businesses take renewable energy generation seriously and invest in making it a core part of their business.

Closing the Loop: Recycling for a Greener Future

Sustainability goes beyond energy at our manufacturing site with Plas-Tech. Their onsite recycling centre ensures that all off-cut plastic waste is granulated and sent back to material suppliers for reprocessing, either into extruded sheets or injection moulding granules. This means that none of their processed plastic ends up in landfill. Even better, the materials can be remoulded into new products up to seven times, significantly extending the life cycle of the original polymers and reducing the need for new resources.

Energy Efficiency at Every Level

Plas-Tech’s commitment to energy conservation continues inside the factory and office spaces, with low-energy LED motion-sensor lighting ensuring no energy goes to waste. In addition, all company vehicles are fully electric and charged using their solar-powered EV chargers.

This complete approach shows that when companies weave renewable energy and efficiency into every layer of their operations, the impact multiplies.

Powering a Greener Future with Recycled Polypropylene

Aligned with Earth Day’s call for sustainable solutions, QUICKBLOCK is manufactured using recycled polypropylene (PP). Polypropylene is lightweight, durable, and can be easily recycled, making it a great product for manufacturing QUICKBLOCK.

Our material supplier sources PP from post-industrial scrap, rejected moulded parts, and post-consumer packaging like containers and caps. The waste is carefully sorted by colour, source, and quality to ensure purity and remove contaminants.

Recycling polypropylene reduces landfill waste, conserves natural resources, and cuts carbon emissions, helping us take real action toward a greener, more sustainable future.

QUICKBLOCK is made from recycled materials, but is also reusable (structures can be rebuilt and repurposed in a variety of ways/places) and at the end of their useful life each QUICKBLOCK can be recycled again.

On QUICKBLOCK, when compared to a standard breeze block, saves over 5kg of CO2. Given concrete and cement products account for over 12% of the worlds CO2 emissions, considering QUICKBLOCK for temporary or semi-permanent structures can make a material difference.

QUICKBLOCK: Our Net Zero Actions

At QUICKBLOCK, we believe that small actions create big change. Guided by our Net Zero Plan, we are proudly working towards achieving net zero emissions by 2045, with an interim target of reducing our emissions by 45.84% by 2028.

Here’s how we’re making it happen:

  • Sustainable Manufacturing: Our blocks are made from 100% recycled polypropylene, sourced from household and commercial waste streams. Thanks to our local UK manufacturing move in 2024, we’ve dramatically cut emissions associated with overseas production and shipping.
  • Packaging Innovation: We’ve transitioned to recycled tape and wrapping materials to cut waste at every level of production.
  • Emission Reductions Across the Board: From cutting business travel emissions by 40% to encouraging low-impact commuting and sustainable home practices among employees, we’re tackling emissions on every front.
  • Supplier Engagement: We are working closely with Plas-Tech to ensure sustainable practices remain at the core of our supply chain.

Personal Commitments: Leading by Example

Our employees are acting at home, too:

  • Andrew Vincent (CEO) drives an EV powered by renewable energy, grows his own fruit and veg, composts, and shops from local producers.
  • Jennifer Tervit (Marketing Manager) has switched to refillable soap dispensers, recycles coffee pods, and runs a household compost system.
  • John Dornan (Head of Business Development) upgraded his home lighting to energy-efficient LEDs and is adding high-performance insulation to boost heating efficiency.

Each small change, when added together, creates powerful momentum towards a more sustainable world.

Looking Forward

As we celebrate Earth Day 2025, we recognise that real progress comes from collaboration between companies, manufacturers, employees, and communities. QUICKBLOCK and Plas-Tech are proof that when we invest in renewable energy and sustainable innovation, we create a ripple effect that can power a better tomorrow.

Together, let us keep building a cleaner, greener future, one block, one action, and one sunny day at a time.

Happy Earth Day from all of us at QUICKBLOCK.
