The British Army has adopted QUICKBLOCK, an innovative modular building system, to enhance its Close Quarter Battle (CQB) training environment at the Infantry Battle School in Brecon. From Test to Trust: The Must-Have Solution
It all started with a live demonstration by the QUICKBLOCK team at Copehill Down for Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Landmarc and the combat manoeuvre centre. The team showcased the versatility, flexibility and customisability of QUICKBLOCK for tactical training solutions.
Subsequently, from the demonstration Major Shaun Clarke, (SO2) Head of Urban Warfare at the Combat Manoeuvre Centre, British Army, was looking for a cost-effective, modular and customisable training system and was impressed with QUICKBLOCK. Initial trials were organised at the Infantry Battle School of the British Army for CQB Training and 2 Med Brigade in York to construct a simulated trench training environment.
Project Support Process
Our project support and design process allow customers to see their requirement digitally, allowing for changes, additions and discussions before confirming the final configuration. CSgt Chris Smith (Chief Instructor – IBS) sent us the prerequisite for the IBS CQB training facility, we created CAD drawings, providing expert advice for set up and implementation.
For certain QUICKBLOCK training environments there will be a need for complementary system add-ons like our rubber block for wall additional stability, windows and doors to replicate real life structures and layouts. All these elements are integrated within the initial plan and designed to the specifications required.
Huge Savings & QUICK turnaround at IBS
As the training centre of excellence, the Infantry Battle School (IBS) in Brecon required a robust, versatile and cost-effective solution to build a Close Quarter Battle course. Due to the reusability and ease of use, no specialist trades or tools required, the QUICKBLOCK system was the perfect fit.
Once the Close Quarter Battle environment was installed, CSgt CA Smith was delighted with the training environment due to QUICKBLOCK being a fast, simple, and cost-effective solution as highlighted in the video below:
“We’ve been trying to construct the CQB facility for some time and we’ve been trying to find a product which is cost affective for a start, easy to construct, robust, can be stripped down and re-made into different set-ups. For some time, we’ve been trying to find a good product and QUICKBLOCK seemed to tick all these boxes. The whole set up took us approx. 2 days to complete which is testament to how easy it is to set up and that was with 2 people. In that we’ve been able to change the layout, we also use mark around training systems, think paint rounds, and there’s been no issues with it. It’s robust, easy to move and change so it’s been ideal. We’re currently looking to expand the training facility, with the outside with half walls and will probably look at QUICKBLOCK where possible”
